Getting Started with Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Two-Factor Authentication ("2FA"), also known as Multi-Factor Authentication ("MFA"), will help protect the security of your 1800 Notify account by requiring a second code to verify your identity in addition to your password.  This extra security means that someone cannot access your account even if they happen to learn your username and password.

Getting Started

We currently offer two options for MFA:
(1) Using an Authenticator App Time Based Code
(2) SMS Text Message One Time Code

Option 1: Using an Authenticator App (Recommended)

Using a free Authenticator app on your phone or device is the most secure option and will provide you with a 6-digit one-time use code every 30 seconds that is uniquely tied to your login account.  This method is more secure than the SMS one time code (Option 2) and does not consume your SMS usage or fees on your phone.  It also works whether or not your phone is in a coverage area.  All you need to do is install a free Authenticator App on your phone and scan the on-screen QR code on our site.

1.1  Install a free Authenticator app on your phone.

Any Authenticator app will work, but here are a few more popular ones:

1.2  Once you've installed your Authenticator App, then add a new entry by clicking the "+"

Google Authenticator app the "+" is in a round button in the lower right corner.

Microsoft Authenticator app the "+" is in the upper right corner in the blue bar.   You may need to select the account type you are adding, we suggest "Other"

Then select "Scan QR code" in the Authenticator app.

1.3   Next, you'll want the QR Code to appear on 1800 Notify's web page.  Here's how:

Login to 1800 Notify.

Click the Gear icon in the upper right corner, then select Authentication

NOTE: If you don't see the "Authentication" menu option, then your administrator has not yet enabled 2FA in your organization's account.

Then select "Authenticator App (TOTP)" from the pop up window to see this screen with the QR Code.

1.4  Once you scan the QR Code in your Authenticator app, then you will have added the 1800 Notify user login account and see a 6 digit one-time pass code appear like this:

1.5  Type that 6 digit code into the screen on 1800 Notify, and click AUTHENTICATE

1.6.  If the time ran out on the One Time code, or you selected the code for the incorrect account from your Authenticator App, then you'll see this error:

Check your Authenticator app and re-enter the updated 6 digit code to continue.  Also, make sure you are entering the code for the account that you just added - it will usually be on the bottom of the list.

If you enter the correct code, you'll see this pop-up.

Option 2: SMS One Time Code

This method requires you have access to the mobile phone registered in your 1800 Notify account and can receive a text message and normal text messaging fees apply.

Users who are enrolled by themselves or by their administrator are required to accept or opt-in to receiving texts from the toll free number that is used by 1800 Notify -

NOTE: If you don't see the "Authentication" menu option, then your administrator has not yet enabled 2FA in your organization's account.

Switching Methods of 2FA Authentication

If you wish to switch methods of 2FA authentication, then click the Gear icon in the upper right corner, then select Authentication

NOTE: If you don't see the "Authentication" menu option, then your administrator has not yet enabled 2FA in your organization's account.

You will then see the same window showing which method is currently enabled.

You can then select the other method.
